Hometown Heroes

Joy Lewis, Lyons' Better Hometown Manager, is rewarding her BHT volunteers in a special way. To say thanks for their hard work, Joy designates a volunteer as the weekly "Hometown Hero" with a medallion and certificate. She also has his/her name announced on the local radio stations as Lyons' BHT "Hometown Hero". The local newspaper is also involved by publishing the "heroes" name in a special section for the BHT program.

Joy says she has a lot of good, hard working volunteers in Lyons and she and the BHT Board want to thank these people for getting Lyons into shape. With the high school students and local citizens pitching in, Lyons will see a new look within months. Murals and a downtown clean up should show marked improvement and hopefully draw interest to Lyons' downtown. Several businesses have improved their façades with the BHT façade grant program and more are in the works.

During Lyons' Christmas celebration, it will snow in Lyons. Joy guarantees this. She and the BHT Board have hired a snow blower to come in and paint Lyons white during the downtown Christmas festivities. Citizens can also purchase lights in memory or honor of someone special to be placed on the downtown Christmas tree.

"Hometown Heroes" are needed in every BHT city and Joy is glad to have her heroes.
