Next Comes the Muse House

Home | Success Stories | Archived | This story

Cuthbert Better Hometown, Inc. has raised over $10,000 for a matching façade grant program to help businesses and property owners restore the fronts of downtown buildings. The project involves painting; renovations to awnings; windows and signage; and sidewalk enhancements. In the first phase of the project, twenty applications were accepted, with $500 available for each application. The second phase of the program will see the area of concentration expanded, to include buildings not directly situated on the downtown square. The targeted area for the second phase includes an additional 14 buildings.

Renovations to building façade have had a great impact on business downtown. Four of the previously vacant buildings have been rented, bringing an antique store, recording studio, medical supply store and Goodwill Thrift Shop to Cuthbert. An additional 37 jobs have been created through the efforts of Cuthbert Better Hometown, Inc. façade grant program as well.

Cuthbert Better Hometown, Inc. is also committed to purchasing and renovating the 150-year-old Muse House to serve as a regional community center. Still in the planning phase, Cuthbert Better Hometown, Inc. is applying for an array of state, regional and foundation grants to help purchase and renovate this historic landmark. Completion of the project will bring a regional welcome center, museum and meeting/banquet facility to Cuthbert.
