A run-down block on the northside of downtown Madison has been tranformed into an attractive extension of the downtown with new buildings designed in traditional fashion. Each building adjoins the sidewalk with on-street parking in front and off-street parking in the rear.

Variations in color, window size, and facade height create visual interest and distinctiveness among the storefronts. Standard shopping centers typically have a uniform design running the entire block length.
