Phoenix Hotel, Waycross

Home | Downtown Success | Hotels | Waycross

The landmark Phoenix Hotel in Waycross stood mostly empty for decades, with only first-floor storefronts seeing significant use. One of several large buildings in downtown, it needed a major financial investment to fill its considerable amount of floor space. Fortunately, the Jones Company, a Waycross-based holding company that owns the Flash Foods chain of convenience stores in south Georgia, was looking for a new headquarters. Tapping into financial assistance from the OneGeorgia Authority and other sources, along with historic tax credits, the company was able to complete an impressive $7 million rehabilitation.
